Dr. Perkins earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College Graduate School in Wheaton, Illinois. Her undergraduate degree in Theology and Education is from Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois.
Dr. Perkins has extensive experience in conducting psychological assessments, therapy with adolescents, adults and older adults, group therapy work and has offered multiple educational presentations. She has specialized training in domestic violence counseling, geropsychology and has earned a certificate in gerontology.
She has also practiced for years treating depression, anxiety, and issues unique to older adults. As a parent of grown children she has a unique perspective on parenting children with challenges and greatly enjoys helping other parents navigate the tumultuous adolescent years with their children.
In addition to psychological assessments and therapy, Dr. Perkins is available to speak or consult on a number of psychological and mental health topics. She has particular interests in topics related to older adults, depression, domestic violence, and the field of horticultural therapy. She loves talking about the therapeutic effects plants have on our lives. Also, therapy dog services will soon be available.
Colleagues and clients alike find her to be open, warm and genuine, with a sense of humor and contagious laugh. A flexible person-centered style is utilized in her therapy services and a practical, solution-focused approach when conducting evaluations.
Dr. Perkins is a professional member of the American Psychological Association (APA), North Carolina Psychological Association (NCPA), and Psychologists in Long Term Care (PLTC)(Past Newsletter Editor). She follows the APA Code of Ethics in her work with clients and colleagues.
She lives in Wake Forest with her husband Rich and their dog Toby. Having raised three sons, she often comments, “I raised three boys with ADHD, I can handle anything!” After living in a house overflowing with testosterone, she is now blessed with a daughter-in-law and two beautiful granddaughters.
